Marcel Môme started the company in 1925 and concentrated on mechanical products but a request from the French Ministry in 1942 was to lead the company in a new direction and result in the telex printer – a new communication method. Over the years the company has diversified into many industries and excelled in them all. These areas have included military applications, defence and security, communications, broadband and alternative energy solutions. In 2005 the Safran group was created (merger of the Sagem and Snecma groups) and printing solutions is now handled under the company name Sagemcom. All previous models of fax machines, printers and multifunction devices are still supported after the merger. Sagem products are well known in France and in many parts of Europe but have yet to achieve a major market share in other parts of the world. Latest models carry the new brand name.
